That's when you have to be strong enough to ask for and/or get help. However, we are all human, so that will happen from time to time. It takes a tough skinned person not to let some of the grueling calls get to you. You will have good days and some not so good days. Not every career gives you the chance to help someone in need. I'll be brutally honest: This job isn't for everyone, but it's very fulfilling. This is more than a job it's a career for me. "In 15 years, no two days have been the same. I never would have thought that 15 years would pass by so fast. You never know what emergency communication work will bring you. It makes by job very fulfilling and is a great honor. "I enjoy helping my community and being a vital part in keeping them safe. This job is tough at times, but the reward and feeling of helping someone you don't even know is worth it." "Deciding to begin a career as a 911 dispatcher has been one of the best decisions of my life. At the end of my 6 month training period I felt ready and eager to take on this new career." It is long and difficult, but absolutely worth all of the time and effort it takes to complete. "The training program at Fayetteville Central Dispatch Center is, in my opinion, one of the best in the state of Arkansas. I have learned and grown so much in my time here." I have now been working for the Fayetteville Central Dispatch Center for 9 years. After taking my first emergency 911 call I was hooked! I was helping people in a way I hadn't even considered before. Once I began as a 911 dispatcher, I soon discovered how rewarding of a career this was. I have always had a desire to help people, but I thought I would fulfill that desire in the medical field as either a nurse or a doctor. "When I started this job I honestly had no idea what I was getting into. At the end of each shift, I get to go home feeling like I made a real difference, and that is more rewarding than I could ever describe. Throughout my 18 year career with the Fayetteville Police Department there has been one constant: every day we make a difference. We may answer a call for help, or we may just answer a question. However, every day we help to ensure that officers and firefighters return home safely to their families, and every day we help someone through the worst day of their life. "You never know exactly what your day will hold as a Dispatcher. The feeling of knowing you have made a difference and helped someone far outweighs the long hours, intense calls, and stressful times." I love figuring out who someone really is or discovering the missing link that brings an incident to close. One of my favorite parts of being a dispatcher is the many roles played throughout the day. It is challenging, fast-paced, and stressful, but also extremely rewarding. The bond that is built with your co-workers is one that I have never experienced in the previous positions I've held outside of Law Enforcement. "I am on my eleventh year of dispatching for the Fayetteville Police Department, and I can not imagine working in any other line of work, much less any other department.
